Student Stories: John

John returned to Adult and Community Learning about two years ago at the age of 31. John had missed school due to illness and family problems.
When he could not keep up he found himself at the back of the class.
He worked as a caretaker and was keen to improve his job prospects but had difficulty with reading writing and spelling. He particularly dreaded having to read aloud as this brought on panic attacks.
When John returned to learning his confidence and trust grew, and he began to be able to read aloud to his children - a dream come true.
John has improved his literacy skills and is now undertaking work based training to improve his job prospects even more.
