Are you asked to produce reports as part of your job but would like a bit of support? This short course will help you plan and organise your report. It will give you tips on structure, style and language and will give you techniques to improve both accuracy and presentation.

Communication Skills for Care

This short course is aimed at anyone working in the care industry who would like to brush up their English skills and feel more confident with the written word. The course, spread over 3 weeks, will look at the rules and tools to brush up punctuation, grammar and spelling and look at ways to improve your writing for work. For those wishing to, there will be an opportunity to gain a National recognised qualification in Adult literacy (Level 1 or 2).

Better Punctuation

When do you use a comma and when a full stop? Does the apostrophe go before or after the's'? Many people struggle with punctuation and if you're one of them, this course is perfect for you. It's packed with clear rules and simple tips that take the mystery out of punctuation.

 English for Presentations

Do you have to prepare presentations? Do you find it difficult to summarise and present the main points of your topic? This short course will look at how you can summarise large amounts of information into a few key points and turn it into a PowerPoint presentation. Although it will cover some basic PowerPoint principles, it will mainly concentrate on the style of language and presentation.

Spelling for Care Workers

This course is designed for anyone wanting to brush up on their spelling and would like to learn some simple tips and tricks to help them do so. The course looks mainly at words used in a medical work context but the tips and tricks can be used for more general spelling.

Discussion Skills

Are you expected to attend meetings as part of your role? Do you sometimes find it difficult to get your point across or contribute to the discussion? This short course will help you understand the dynamics of group discussion and give you some tips to improve your  confidence and help you get more involved.

Understanding Dyslexia and Readability

A short course to increase your awareness of the issues surrounding dyslexia. It will give information on the main signs and indicators and how it feels to be dyslexic. It will look at the simple steps you can take to make your organisation more dyslexic friendly and make your communications easier to read. This course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in dyslexia, wants to help support dyslexic colleagues or service users or for individuals who might be dyslexic and would like more information.

Adult Learners' Support Certificate

This course is ideal for anyone who may be involved in supporting and developing workplace skills and may appeal to human resource staff, Trade Union Learner Reps, Team Leaders and those with a mentoring role. It will raise your awareness of the Skills for Life agenda and the impact of poor basic skills in the workplace.  This is an in-depth course and leads to a recognised qualification.

A shocking 7 million adults in England cannot read and write at the level we would expect of an 11 year old and even more have problems with numbers. This affects them in both their working and everyday life. This short course will raise your awareness of how poor English and Maths skills can affect people's lives and limit opportunities. You will look at the active steps you and your organisation can take to help both colleagues and service users.
