Communication Skills for Care

This short course is aimed at anyone working in the care industry who would like to brush up their English skills and feel more confident with the written word. The course, spread over 3 weeks, will look at the rules and tools to brush up punctuation, grammar and spelling and look at ways to improve your writing for work. For those wishing to, there will be an opportunity to gain a National recognised qualification in Adult literacy (Level 1 or 2).

When do you use a comma and when a full stop? Does the apostrophe go before or after the's'? Many people struggle with punctuation and if you're one of them, this course is perfect for you. It's packed with clear rules and simple tips that take the mystery out of punctuation.

Do you have to prepare presentations? Do you find it difficult to summarise and present the main points of your topic? This short course will look at how you can summarise large amounts of information into a few key points and turn it into a PowerPoint presentation. Although it will cover some basic PowerPoint principles, it will mainly concentrate on the style of language and presentation.

Spelling for Care Workers

This course is designed for anyone wanting to brush up on their spelling and would like to learn some simple tips and tricks to help them do so. The course looks mainly at words used in a medical work context but the tips and tricks can be used for more general spelling.

A short course to increase your awareness of the issues surrounding dyslexia. It will give information on the main signs and indicators and how it feels to be dyslexic. It will look at the simple steps you can take to make your organisation more dyslexic friendly and make your communications easier to read. This course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in dyslexia, wants to help support dyslexic colleagues or service users or for individuals who might be dyslexic and would like more information.
