| MON 4th,11th,18th & 25th Feb 9.30 -12.30 | The Learning Support Certificate course (Unit One)This course is ideal for anyone who may be involved in his or her local community, in a mentoring or voluntary role. The qualification is aimed at front line staff, managers and volunteers and develops the knowledge and skills required of those who are supporting or advising adults who intend to improve their literacy, IT, language or numeracy skills. At the end of the course you will feel more confident to signpost staff or clients to basic skills provision and begin to think about the impact of poor skills in your area of work or voluntary role. | Lissadel St Campus of Salford College |

Making reading easier for your audience With over 1 million adults in Greater Manchester with reading skills below that of an 11 year old, it's important if you want to get your message across to follow the rules of readability. This course will guide you through the basic principles of best practice making your written communications more accessible. You will look at design, text, illustrations, sentence structure and size and by the end of the course you will be able to use simple SMOG tests to check your own publications. |

Understanding Dyslexia A short course to increase your awareness of the issues surrounding dyslexia. It will give information on the main signs and indicators and how it feels to be dyslexic. It will look at the simple steps you can take to make your organisation more dyslexic friendly. This course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in dyslexia, wants to help support dyslexic colleagues or service users or for individuals who might be dyslexic and would like more information. |

Skills for Life Awareness Raising Aimed at all levels of staff, such as reception and clerical staff, who wish to raise awareness of Skills for Life and have not yet done unit 1 of the Level 2 Certificate in Learning Support. It will also help managers to identify the Skills for Life needs of their staff, the work force development needs and where to signpost for either support, information or accredited courses. |

English for Presentations Do you have to prepare presentations? Do you find it difficult to summarise and present the main points of your topic? This short course will look at how you can summarise large amounts to information into a few key points and turn it into a PowerPoint presentation. Although it will cover some basic PowerPoint principles, it will mainly concentrate on the style of language and presentation. |

This briefing will give general and current information, why they are needed, application & transfer of skills and advice for transition from current provision to functional skills. This session will be ideal for any providers in the post 19 sector or anyone giving information advice for guidance to adults. |
